Why sources disagree

Mini marshmallows leave air gaps in the cup, so the weight depends on how they settle and on their size, which explains the 7 g gap. USDA also lists 10 miniatures at 7 g and one regular marshmallow at 7.2 g. If a recipe gives a bag weight, weigh rather than counting cups.
